Let’s talk about the war on Christians. No, not the faux
Wars on Christmas and Easter ginned up by Fox News, but a real a honest to
Allah effort to persecute Christians and drive Christianity underground if not
out of the country. Just not our country.
According to a 2011 Pew Forum, Christians are harassed in
130 countries around the world, more than any other religion in the world. And
less you imagine “harassed” means some Hindu fellow teasing his Christian
neighbor about having only three Gods while he has three thousand, think again.
We’re talking torture, rape, imprisonment, and death simply for being a
Christian.
Most of this evil takes place in Muslim countries. According
USA Today yesterday, the worse offenders are Iraq, Iran, Syria, Lebanon, and
Egypt. And Jeffrey Goldberg of The Atlantic magazine calls this “one of the
most undercovered stories in international news,” and says he is surprised that
American Christians aren’t protesting in front of the embassies of the
countries persecuting Christians.
Why is it that American Christians can get all riled up
about the persecution of gun owners, heterosexuals, and fetuses, and do nothing
about the persecution of fellow Christians? Why is it that Fox News is willing
to dig and dig until they find someone hapless Wal-Mart employee saying “Happy
Holidays” rather than “Merry Christmas,” and yet seems ignorant of the real
tragedy of Christian persecution?
I urge Christian Americans to take a page from the Jews’ playbook
regarding Soviet Jewry, and I urge all Americans, but especially Jewish and
Muslim ones, to band together with our Christian neighbors and stand up to the
evil of religious persecution wherever it is found.
