The War on Christians

There is a world war being waged against Christians by Muslims. Not all Muslims against all Christians, but enough Muslims against enough Christians to put this story on the cover of Newsweek magazine. Christians are being slaughtered simply because they are Christians. And what does the world do about it? Nothing.

Imagine the Newsweek cover story was the War on Jews. It would be a similar story. Those who are waging war on Christians are also waging war on Jews. But there is a difference: Jews have a nuclear-armed Jewish State to defend them if it comes to that. Who will come to the aid of Christians? Where is the nuclear-armed Christian State? Where are the Christian soldiers who can move onward against the enemies of Christendom?

All this was revealed to me today as I sat in a local bookstore reading the Newsweek article when a fellow sitting at the next table leaned to in to clue me in.

America, he told me, isn’t a Christian nation, but a nation of Christians. Our military doesn’t swear allegiance to Christ but to the Constitution. The closest thing Christians have to a Christian Army is the Swiss Guard that defends the Vatican, and they don’t even have rifles, let alone nuclear weapons.

What we need, he told me, is the Christian equivalent of Israel, Iran, and Pakistan: religious states with (now or in the near future) nuclear weapons. If there were such a Christian State whose mission was the defense of Christians wherever they live and are threatened, those who wage war against Christians would have to think twice. The Christian State would resemble Israel in that it wouldn’t be about the spread of its religion but about the defense of its faithful. Christian assassins would eliminate the leaders who order the death of Christians simply for being Christian. Christian drones would circle the skies above endangered Christian communities, and hold those who would kill Christians at bay, or destroy them if they insisted on carrying out their evil plans. But there is no such state, and hence Christians are at risk.

What can we do, I asked him? In the short run America and the formerly Christian nations of Europe should offer all endangered Christians asylum. Just get to a friendly embassy and we will get to you a safe haven in the West. In the long term we must work hard to transform a formerly Christian country back into a fully Christian one. England was his country of choice because it has a state religion, the Church of England, that can be used to transform the country into a nuclear-armed theocracy.

“I wish it could be America that becomes the Christian State, but we are too close to being an Islamic one. Obama is a Trojan Muslim, and sharia law will replace the Constitution within a decade. When that happens unless there is a nuclear-armed Christian State to save them, Christians will die in vast numbers, the jihadists will win, and only Jesus will save us. The problem is there will only a handful left to save.”

This is scary stuff. The war on Christians seems all too real. What do you think we can do about it?

Tbe United States is a nation of laws. When we discuss a "Christian" state, who's view of Christianity is embraced? There are diverse flavors of Christianity, some embrace a culture of hate, such as the group that travels to the funerals of service men and women, and proclaim that God hates Gays, therefore, these young people are dead. Other denomoniations, Unity Church for example, embrace a very loving theology, and an inclusionary philosophy. I don't have any answers, and I don't mean to sound negative or heartless, but I grew up Catholic, and have traveled my own path to find spirituality, so I disagree with anyone's rigid dogma, and would hate to see a Christian theoocracy. As a student of history, the Catholic nations of the past, France comes to mind, waged war on heresy (Albigension) and Spain expelled the Jews. Who calls the shots? Rome? Billy Graham? The GOP?

I'VE HAD ENOUGH! In this Holy War on Religion, of Religion, and by Religion. I SURRENDER! I’m a lover, not a fighter.  Instead... I’m gonna start my OWN religion, and get in on the good stuff: tax exemptions, and lots of taxpayer money to do what I want, in the name of religious liberty. Most definitely! Hey NEWT -wanna join? We’re gonna have open marriages and multiple wives and all SORTS of neat stuff that you’re just gonna love! But don’t you worry your little head Newt: we’ll have no -I repeat- NO nasty stoning of adulterers. None of that stuff. I Promise! As for SANTORUM, he just LOVES to tell other people how they should live. He’ll make us a REAL fine preacher-man. In fact, we’ll make him Saint Santorum. AND fix his Google search results! As for Mr. Obama,  obviously, we’ll need to (severely) demonize him, even further. And his dog Toto too. Last but not least: MITT and RON. Hmmm. Hey, I know. Just for you two guys: we’ll insist on NO TAXES AT ALL for church members…AND human sacrifice of illegal aliens. Out with their hearts! Televised! Live! Whoooppee! WHAT A COUNTRY!  :-)
By the way, please don’t mention the REASON that Mitt Romney’s dad was born in Mexico (i.e. The fact that Mitt’s Mormon grand-dad left the United States in the 1880’s. He went to Mexico BECAUSE laws against polygamy were passed in the U.S. ; Being a Mormon back then, Mitt’s grand-dad wanted to keep his multiple wives. Hey, who wouldn’t?) Bottom line: if we follow the “logic” of the people crying crocodile tears about a non-existent “war on religion”, then the U.S. should have allowed polygamy (and who knows what else) just because a particular religion claimed it as their cherished belief. GIVE ME A BREAK!
Absolutely NO ONE is coming into our Churches or places of worship and trying to tell parishioners what to believe.....or forcing them to use contraception. BUT If the Bishops (and other denominations) want to continue running businesses that employ millions of people of varying faiths -or no "faith" at all- THEN they must play by the same rules and rights that other workers have and enjoy...especially if their businesses use our tax dollars (and skip paying taxes) in the process. This is not a “war on religion”. It’s a war on women and men who simply want to plan their families and control their future. Now that’s REAL religious liberty!
p. s. I come from a religious background. I know that their are MANY good people out there, in various faiths (and outside of those faiths); many good people searching for answers, for community, for a way....in this all-too-harsh world. There's only one thing I can say to you: think for yourself, be yourself, trust yourself. Don't just accept something because it comes from a "voice of authority". That’s why you have a conscience: to choose, not just to follow....
