In our torah study class, many of us use the Artscroll Stone Chumash because it has the Hebrew and much of the traditional commentary in footnotes. The Living Torah, translated by Rabbi Aryeh Kaplan, is another favorite - it has a completely different flavor from the Stone translation. Usually someone has a King James one, too, perhaps stolen from some hotel drawer :-), which gives the more traditional Christian view.

If you want to know what the torah portion is for any particular week, go to: http://urj.org/learning/torah/ or http://www.chabad.org/parshah/default_cdo/jewish/parshah.htm for a more traditional perspective.Clairehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09057593571875920565noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18968172.post-19607722002156735952010-10-01T07:38:46.035-07:002010-10-01T07:38:46.035-07:00The Torah and the Five Books of Moses are the firs...The Torah and the Five Books of Moses are the first five books of the Bible in any translation. The translation used in academic circles is the New Revised Standard Version. An interesting alternative is Matthew Fox's The Five Books of Moses by Soncino Press.Rabbi Ramihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07549679279782491931noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18968172.post-85120140010414019122010-09-30T13:10:49.597-07:002010-09-30T13:10:49.597-07:00Will do :)Will do :)andrea perezhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02187928609335174447noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18968172.post-69289806690990544572010-09-30T08:15:45.712-07:002010-09-30T08:15:45.712-07:00Don't laugh at the question, I'm not exact...Don't laugh at the question, I'm not exactly a religious scholar. The five books of the Torah are also in the Bible, correct? There are several translations of the Bible (not all in agreement). Are there other translations that are considered Torah and not Bible? Or will any old version of these 5 books found in a Bible do?Karenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14553090239325979814noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18968172.post-39868124020946789492010-09-30T07:54:10.729-07:002010-09-30T07:54:10.729-07:00This is an awesome idea! This is an awesome idea!rbarenblathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10882606147795083729noreply@blogger.com
