Human violence, both actual and ideological, is worth being confronted and argued over. Natural violence, or perhaps divine violence (in the form of tsunamis at the macro level and, say cancer at the micro level) is equally worth review. Reading the bible is like being Job confronted with the whirlwind or Abraham playing battling idols in his father's house. That difficulty is, perhaps, essential to the development of human morality.AaronHerschelhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08886387346974535323noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18968172.post-1165202168121428202006-12-03T19:16:00.000-08:002006-12-03T19:16:00.000-08:00Rami,Since no one actually comments on your blog (...Rami,

Since no one actually comments on your blog (other than spammers) I thought I would make your day!
First of all, I am one of the evangelical pastors that traveled with you to Israel. I am the one that does not live in Nashville! (You know who!)

You said. "I would like to see local Jewish, Christian, and Muslim clergy and lay leaders come together to study their respective scriptures in order to identify and reject those passages that advocate and condone violence. The Hebrew Bible, New Testament, and the Qur’an all suffer from passages that have God calling for violence and even genocide. These passages cannot come from a God of justice and compassion, and need to be rejected as false teaching."

Where can the world find such brave people? To go against the holy book you were brought up to believe is God's divine word, is not an easy task. Fear, I believe, holds more people in their beliefs than does faith. Fear of rejecting the God of their childhood paralyzes many, even if the God of their childhood does not in actuality exist, except in the minds of it's creator. Make sense?

It will take a brave few to step out into a "brave new world" and let go of beliefs that bring harm instead of peace!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
